I know it has been tough for classroom teachers as schools have re-opened. This  is specially true for veteran teachers. Veterans who are competent, expect smooth classroom operations, and positive student outcomes. Which is not the norm right now.

That’s OK. Because this year isn’t normal. This year is an anomaly.

Which means this year we are all first year teachers. You remember your first year… Full of good ideas and intentions while pretending like you knew what you were doing,

So take a deep breath and give yourself a break. And remember three things.

  1. This year, bad instruction is better than no instruction.

  1. No one currently in the profession has ever taught in the environment in which you are now teaching.

  1. Criticism from anyone who isn’t willing to step in the classroom and teach, right now, isn’t worth listening to.
