We have problem in education today.  The problem is that what is expected from today’s teacher far exceeds what was expected from any teacher previously.  Which mean two things.

 

1.The previous model for an effective teacher becomes more out of date every day.

 

2.What we currently pay teachers is inadequate compensation for the skill set required to be successful in meeting these increased expectations.

 

Which is why the education policies and laws that are legislatures crank out are increasingly laughable. We can increase student outcomes. We can decrease school expenditures. But you have to pick one. To demand both does not make you a leader.  It makes you delusional, or a petulant child, or a… politician.
