It’s that time of year again. The time when the promotion opportunities begin to open up. Teacher to Assistant Principal, Assistant Principal to Principal, and Principal to Assistant Superintendent. It’s the time of year when educators pull me aside and say, “I’m ready.”

Most of those people aren’t.

Sure, they have the skill set. They just don’t have the mindset.

They want the easy promotion. The promotion at their campus, in their district, or at least the district within easy driving distance. But those jobs are few and far between.

If you really want the promotion, you have to prepare yourself and your family to go where the job is. The jobs are much more plentiful “out there” for the aspiring leader willing to let go of comfortable and pursue opportunity.

Think. Work. Achieve.
