School leaders will bend themselves into pretzels to avoid causing staff any unnecessary discomfort. I cannot fault them for that.  I did the same.

But don’t confuse unnecessary discomfort with necessary discomfort.

Necessary discomfort occurs when we are working to move from ineffective habits to best practice. We must recognize that the greater the gap between current habit and best practice the greater the pain. And neither ignorance of the best practice or avoiding the best practice is an excuse.

Just get your staff busy at getting better and ignore the gritching.

Think. Work. Achieve.
