The A-F school accountability rating system is inherently unfair. In spite of the massive spin campaign by our state politicians and TEA employees, when the primary driver of a school’s rating is its poverty level, the system is flawed.

Essentially, the system repeatedly produces the following ratings:

Wealthy Students + Bad Instruction = An Above Par Rating.

Poor Students + Good Instruction = A Below Par Rating.

Until there is the political will (don’t hold your breath) to create a system that produces the following result:

Wealthy Students + Bad Instruction = A Below Par Rating.

The system will always be a cruel game that values and rewards wealthy zip codes over equitable outcomes.
