There is not a single campus that I have visited that is not actively and aggressively implementing practices that are detrimental to student outcomes.  That is not an indictment.  Even the most forward leaning campus has to overcome engrained habits, routines and traditions. Habits, routines and traditions that were inflicted on us and we have just carried on.  When we are ignorant to the negative effect of these practices, we are essentially blameless.

Because what we don’t know, we don’t know.

But what about when we know about the negative effect of our habits, routines and practices? What about when we know what to do instead? What about when we choose not to do those things?

Now we move from ignorance to willful injury.

The excuse doesn’t matter. The simple fact is that you have determined that adult comfort and convenience is to be valued over improved student opportunity.

And to knowingly diminish student opportunity is to willfully cause student injury…

This is why ignorance is bliss.
