A number of teachers are currently dealing with the following problems:

1. Limited student engagement with remote instruction.
2. Limited student retention of taught content.
3. Poor and limited student note taking skills.

Here is a NOTEable solution to these problems (pun obviously intended).

1. Tell your students to get a sheet of paper. Have your students show you the blank piece of paper on their device camera.

2. Tell your student to draw two rectangles on the sheet of paper. The top rectangle should be larger than the bottom rectangle. See the example below. Have your students show you their work on their device camera.

3. Tell your student to write the lesson topic and the date at the top of the paper. See the example below. Have your students show you their work on their device camera.

4. Tell your student to divide the top rectangle into four equal quadrants. See the example below. Have your students show you their work on their device camera.

5. Provide your students with four key words or phrases. Tell your student to write a key word or phrase at the top of each quadrant. See the example below. Have your students show you their work on their device camera.

6. Provide your students with the Closing Question or Prompt. Tell your student to write the Closing Question or Prompt at the top of the bottom rectangle. See the example below. Have your students show you their work on their device camera.

7. Tell your students to take notes on the note taking page they just completed as you teach your lesson. Give students opportunities to discuss their notes with other students. At regular intervals have your students show you their work on their device camera.

8. At the end of the class period, tell your students to respond to the Closing Question or Prompt. Have your students show you their work on their device camera.

9. Have your students place the completed note taking form in a notebook. Encourage them to use their notes to complete assignments and study for quizzes, assessments, tests, finals, and state accountability exams.
