I have trick that helps me from doing things that are contrary to what I want to actually accomplish. I say the thing I’m doing out loud. It’s amazing all of the things we do every day, because that’s the way we have always done it, that actually fail the “Say It Out Loud,” test.
Here’s an example of how it works (say the following out loud)…
“At my school, we want students to attend school every day. When we catch a student skipping school… We suspend that student for three days to teach him that coming to school is important.”
When you say that out loud, it sounds… Stupid.
So, here’s the trick. When the thing you are doing sounds stupid, change. Do something less stupid instead. You may not completely solve the issue, but you’ll be significantly ahead of anyone not using the “Say It Out Loud,” test.
Think. Work. Achieve.
Your turn…
