You have a large population of citizens going about their daily business. Without warning, a pestilence flares up, killing and maiming randomly and indiscriminately.  Then the pestilence goes into hiding. But we know it is still there. Think Flu Strains, Zika and Ebola.

The best minds in the world tackle the problem.  They look for causes, cures, and preventative behaviors and practices. The best minds in the world do everything within their power to stop the outbreaks and reduce the risk to innocents.  There are no guarantees, but there is meaningful action…

You have a large population of citizens going about their daily business. Without warning a shooter shows up, killing and maiming randomly and indiscriminately.  The shooter is killed or apprehended. But there are other shooters in hiding, planning, waiting. But we know they are still there.

Our politicians, and the gun industry lobbyists who keep the campaign coffers overflowing, do something. They offer to the exponentially increasing number of victims and their families… “Thoughts and prayers.”
