Change is hard. Change that leads to measurable improvement in student performance, harder still.  Which is why I post the monthly PowerWalks Hero School list.  If teams of teachers are to have a fighting chance to not only teach at full speed but also incrementally change the way the way they do it, they need regular feedback, support and affirmation.  That does not occur when administrators are stuck in their offices.  When a school makes the PowerWalks Hero School list that is an indication that for at least that particular month, campus administrators were able to push administrivia to the side and get out to where the action is, classrooms. And the more time administrators spend close to the action, the more responsive they become to actual student and teacher need.

So here is the roll call of PowerWalks Hero Schools for the 2011/2012 school year. And your goal for next year?  If you aren’t on the list, get on it.  If you are on the list, get on it more often.
